In Mytishchi, in honor of the 200th anniversary of the first centralized water supply, an unusual monument to water supply pipeline was opened. The monument consists of three metal pipes with valves, symbolizing the legend of the thunder spring.
The legend tells that at the beginning of the XVIII century in a severe thunderstorm, lightning struck the ground near Mytishchi and water spring erupted at this place, shooting water up to three meters high. The water had healing properties and was considered holy. The source has gathered many pilgrims, and was called the Holy Spring or the Thunder Spring. Currently, the area near the former Thunder Spring is swamped, but the legend has been preserved and transformed into a water supply, which annualy brings life-giving water to every house of Mytishchi.
