PJSC Severstal, one of the largest world vertically integrated steel production and mining companies, and Hyperloop Transportation Technologies, Inc. (HyperloopTT), the leading developer of high speed transportation, signed an agreement for supply of steel for construction of the first commercial prototype of the hyperloop transportation system.
HyperloopTT is an innovative transportation & technological company focused on implementation of hyperloop technology, a system of public transport that uses steel vacuum-tight pipes with pressure close to vacuum allowing the transport capsules inside them to carry passengers and cargos with the speed up to 1223 km/h.
Being the most metal-consuming transport infrastructure the hyperloop can not only change the world transportation system market but also significantly influence the metallurgic market.
One kilometer of the future transportation system route consumes over five thousand ton of steel, and the annual volume of steel consumption by projects under construction in 2030-s is estimated as 20 million ton per year.
The Hyperloop is more efficient than the high speed railway transport, moves with the speed of an airplane, and also is an environmentally friendly technology. According to
HyperloopТТ analysists, the implementation of this transport system worldwide will allow to reduce CO2 emissions by 143 million ton per year. Thanks to the use of renewable energy resources, for example, solar panels installed above the high speed transport line, the hyperloop will be able to generate more energy than it consumes.
Severstal will become the main supplier of steel for the construction of the first five kilometers of the full-scale commercial sample of the transportation system that will serve as a safety certification center for HyperloopTT. This step will become decisive in creation of inter-city transportation system of the new generation throughout the world. It is expected that the final location of the construction of the first kilometers of the system will be announced in the nearest future.
Andres De Leon, General Manager of Hyperloop Transportation Technologies comments:
«HyperloopTT is happy to cooperate with one of the best global metallurgic companies. I am sure that Severstal will become the steel supplier not only for the first but also for the future hyperloop systems».
