2 projects are presented in the nomination "The best project for the efficient management of industrial waste":
- "Resource saving in metallurgy – return of steelmaking slag to the production cycle"; https://topecopro.ru/project/akczionernoe-obshhestvo-volzhskij-trubnyj-zavod /
The purpose of the project: the return (recycling) of steelmaking slag formed during non-furnace processing of steel into the production cycle. The essence of the proposal: the selection of material to stabilize the structure of the slag after furnace treatment. It was proposed to use a complex ladle slag modifier (CLSM) to stabilize the slag structure of the out-of-furnace steel treatment. In the process of pilot tests, the technology of the CLSM additive was developed. As a result, the stabilization of the slag mass to 100% was achieved. The slag stabilized by CLSM can be used as a slag-forming material, which will reduce the consumption of lime and the cost of purchasing limestone, as well as ensure a reduction in the receipt of slag from out-of-furnace processing of steel in the maps of the landfill of waste disposal of JSC "VTZ". This technology can be used in other metallurgical industries, during the operation of which extra-furnace slag is formed.
- "Resource saving in metallurgy - the return of lime-containing dust formed during the production of lime to the process of steel smelting for slag formation." https://topecopro.ru/project/akczionernoe-obshhestvo-volzhskij-trubnyj-zavod-2/
The purpose of the project: recycling - the return to steel production of 60% of lime-containing aspiration dust formed at the lime firing site and the preparation of ferroalloys by Electric Furnace Melting Shop of JSC "VTZ". Lime is the main of the additional materials contributing to slag formation in the production of steel, as well as reducing the content of phosphorus and sulfur in the metal. The essence of the proposal: the use of lime-containing aspiration dust as an additional slag-forming material in the production of steel, which will reduce the cost of acquiring limestone and the volume of burial of this dust at the landfill of JSC "VTZ". This technology can be used in other metallurgical industries when smelting steel in arc steelmaking furnaces.
In the nomination "The best project in the field of ecology implemented within the framework of corporate social responsibility programs" –
"ECO HOUSE TMK as an implementation of ESG principle". https://topecopro.ru/project/akczionernoe-obshhestvo-volzhskij-trubnyj-zavod-ao-vtz/
The project "ECO HOUSE TMK as the implementation of ESG principle" presents the main activities aimed at the formation of ecological culture and eco-education of various target audiences of the plant and the region of presence in the following areas: - subproject "ECOLAB"; - subproject "Public Eco-council of JSC "Volga Pipe Plant"; - subproject "Creation of the Industrial Chair "Industrial ecology and rational use of natural resources together with VolgSTU university". ESG (Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance) is a business activity carried out in compliance with the principles of sustainable development, which implies a responsible attitude to the environment, society and management standards of Volga Pipe Plant JSC, which is part of PJSC Pipe Metallurgical Company (TMK), building its activities in accordance with TMK's updated environmental policy on the best environmental practices, adheres to three main priorities – eco-technologies, eco-processes and eco-products. The foundation for achieving these priorities is the high social responsibility of the plant, which is supported in many ways, thanks to the actively carried out work on environmental education.
Key activities and results of 2020:
- more than eight thousand atmospheric air analyses have been performed on stationary sources, no excess of standards has been detected;
- the uninterrupted operation of the gas cleaning unit of the electric steelmaking shop was ensured, bag filters were replaced in the amount of 12,242 pcs.;
- as part of the preparation for the introduction of carbon regulation in the Russian Federation, a report on greenhouse gas emissions for 2020 has been prepared;
- measures have been taken to prevent excessive discharges of pollutants into conditionally clean wastewater of JSC "VTZ" from the cleaning system of the "dirty" recycling cycle of Pipe Rolling Shop 2;
- horizontal scale settling tanks have been cleaned;
- cleaning of the surfaces of LN-2 receiving tank and 20-, 30-section horizontal settling tanks and similar structures from pop-up petroleum products from oil traps was carried out;
- the aboveground and underground tanks were cleaned from the sludge of mechanical purification of oily wastewater containing petroleum products in the amount of 15% or more;
- work has been carried out on the removal of spent emulsions and emulsion mixtures from Electric Welded Pipe Shop and Pipe Rolling Plant 2;
- 122 employees of the plant were trained for the right to work with waste of hazard class I-IV;
- within the framework of industrial environmental control, soil condition was monitored, natural (underground) water quality indicators were monitored and atmospheric air quality indicators were monitored in the area of influence of the landfill, no excess was detected;
- the specific indicator of waste generation has been reduced by 4.7%.
- sales of waste and by-products to third-party organizations for their further use increased by 2.6%.
The main tasks of the plant for environmental protection for 2021:
