The new oil field could increase Iran's confirmed reserves of 150 billion barrels of oil by 1/3 and become the second largest in Iran after the Ahvaz field.
Ahvaz is one of the largest oil fields in the world with estimated confirmed reserves of about 65.5 billion barrels, located in Khuzestan province, oil production is about 750 thousand barrels/day (more than 100 thousand tons /day).
According to preliminary calculations, the new field will be as large as Ahvaz and can be put into operation in 2 – 3 years, with the planned production of about 100 thousand tons/day of oil.
Iran currently has the world's fourth-largest confirmed crude oil reserves and the world's second-largest natural gas reserves.
According to the annual report BP Outlook 2018, confirmed oil reserves in Iran are 155.6 billion barrels or about 9% of the world, but production lags behind due to imposed sanctions,  and is currently at 4.1 million barrels/day or about 5% of world oil production.
